I have fond memories of the dining room in our last house, but if I’m being honest, G and I never actually ate a meal there, just the two of us. It was one of those rooms that felt too formal for casual dinners. Instead, we often used the dining table—an amazing flea market find—as a backdrop for food photography, hosting parties, or even as a makeshift office for our team. But when it came to eating dinner on a random weeknight, we rarely brought our meals into that space.

Fast forward to our current home, and the dining room has completely transformed. It’s become a spot where G and I eat nearly all of our dinners. The room has a cozy, yet refined vibe, almost like a chic little restaurant. With its vintage bistro mirror and greenery adding a touch of life, it feels welcoming and comfortable—a far cry from the formality of our previous dining space.

Our Interior Designer, Katie Hodges, played a huge role in making this room feel like home. When she showed me the mockup for the new dining table, I instantly knew it was the perfect choice. It strikes the perfect balance between rustic charm and classic style, with just the right amount of uniqueness in its details. The table feels grounded yet sophisticated, a place where we can enjoy meals every day without it ever feeling out of place.

For the chairs, we drew inspiration from the ones we had in our last house, which are now happily stationed outside. The new dining chairs feel similar, with a touch of nostalgia as they echo the ones my parents have always had, right down to the muted green leather covers. It’s a lovely detail that ties in family history while still keeping the space feeling fresh and personal.

What’s amazing is how this room has truly evolved into a space where we can relax and enjoy meals in a way we never could in our previous home. The new dining room has become a place we’re excited to spend time in, whether we’re sharing a quiet dinner or hosting friends. It’s funny how something as simple as a well-designed table can shift the entire dynamic of a space, making it feel more intimate and inviting.
